From Ambition to Impact
Celebrating the Journey of the Presidential Service Badge Foundation’s Inaugural Scholarship Recipients
What began with one powerful question, “What is your ambition?”, has now become something much greater than an application, an essay, or an award.
It has become a journey.
The Presidential Service Badge Foundation launched its inaugural scholarship program with a meaningful purpose: to invest in education, recognize ambition, and extend a legacy of service into the next generation.
A total of 22 applicants answered the call, sharing their educational goals, professional aspirations, commitment to service, and vision for what could come next.
From those submissions, three scholarship recipients were selected.
First Place: Luke Dale Jinkens, $1,500 Scholarship
Second Place: Abigayle Provin, $500 Scholarship
Third Place: Emily Fluharty, $500 Scholarship
All three scholarship awards have now been issued and sent by certified mail in the form of certified bank checks made payable directly to each recipient.
The checks have been mailed. The awards have been presented. Yet the story does not end there.
In many ways, this is where the story begins.
Beyond the Award
At the Presidential Service Badge Foundation, we believe an opportunity should represent more than the moment in which it is given. We want to know what happens afterward.
Where does ambition lead? What does an investment in education make possible? What happens when someone who receives an opportunity carries that opportunity forward through their own service?
This next chapter of our inaugural scholarship program is especially meaningful because we are beginning to hear directly from our recipients about what this experience has meant to them and where their journeys are taking them.
Several of our recipients have expressed their gratitude for being selected and shared how fortunate they feel to have received this opportunity.
One recipient has already offered us a remarkable glimpse into what comes next.
From Scholarship Recipient to the Front Lines of Care
Emily Fluharty, BSN, Third Place Scholarship Recipient
When Emily applied for the Presidential Service Badge Foundation Scholarship, she was navigating one of the most demanding periods of her nursing education. Her days included long clinical hours, late nights of studying, and the growing realization that the knowledge and skills she was developing would soon be used to care for real patients.
Completing the scholarship application allowed her to reflect on something deeper: why she chose nursing in the first place.
Her answer centered on service.
Emily shared that her goal was to provide the highest quality of care while becoming a strong advocate for her patients.
Today, that ambition is becoming reality.
Emily graduated from nursing school with distinction and will begin her professional nursing career in the Emergency Department of a Level 2 Trauma Center.
For Emily, receiving the scholarship meant more than financial support. The award provided meaningful relief as she entered a new chapter, but it also represented something that cannot be measured in dollars: the knowledge that others believe in the work she is preparing to do.
In her reflection, Emily spoke about nurses showing up for strangers during some of the hardest days of their lives. She expressed what it meant to know that this work is recognized, valued, and considered worthy of investment.
Those words speak directly to the spirit of service.
Emily closed her message to the Foundation by sharing that she hopes to spend her career living up to the honor she received.
That is what makes this journey so meaningful.
The scholarship may have begun with an application, but its impact continues through the lives our recipients will touch.
One Scholarship. A Much Larger Story.
Scholarships are often measured in dollars.
Their true value, however, may be better understood by looking at what happens next.
A scholarship can assist with tuition, books, certification, and the many expenses that accompany an education. Yet behind every award is something that cannot be written on a check. There is belief. There is encouragement. There is possibility. Someone is saying, “Keep going.”
Luke, Abigayle, and Emily each entered this inaugural scholarship program with their own ambition and their own story.
Their paths will be different, and that is exactly why following their journeys matters.
As we receive additional updates from our recipients, the Presidential Service Badge Foundation looks forward to sharing their experiences, celebrating their milestones, and discovering where their ambitions ultimately lead.
The Question That Started It All
What is your ambition?
It sounds like a simple question, but ambition often begins quietly.
It may begin in a classroom. It may begin during a late night of studying. It may grow from military service, a family tradition, an unexpected challenge, or a moment when someone realizes there is something more they are called to pursue.
With education, opportunity, discipline, and support, ambition can become a career.
A career can become service.
Service can become legacy.
The Presidential Service Badge Foundation’s inaugural scholarship program represents an investment not simply in three students, but in possibility.
Today, we celebrate Luke Dale Jinkens, Abigayle Provin, and Emily Fluharty.
Tomorrow, we look forward to seeing where their ambitions take them.
Sometimes the greatest return on an investment cannot be measured immediately.
Sometimes, you have to follow the journey.

A Reflection: Continuing the Opportunity
This inaugural scholarship journey reminds us that an opportunity does not end when an award is presented. In many ways, that is when its impact begins.
Three recipients were selected this year, but behind those three awards were 22 individuals willing to put their ambitions into words and imagine what might be possible through education, service, and perseverance. Each application represented a person looking toward the future.
As we celebrate Luke Dale Jinkens, Abigayle Provin, and Emily Fluharty, we are also reminded that the next student is already dreaming. The next ambition may already be forming. The next application may come from someone who simply needs an opportunity to move one step closer to what they believe they can become.
That is why the continuation of this scholarship matters.
When we invest in education, we are not only contributing toward a semester, a degree, or a professional certificate. We are investing in what that education may eventually become: a career, a contribution to a community, an act of service, or a legacy that reaches far beyond the original recipient.
Our inaugural recipients are the beginning of that story.
